What's New in HandicapMaster 5.4

Get to know the new HandicapMaster.

HandicapMaster 5.4 is packed with new features. To help you find your way around them all, we have put together some handy notes.

1. Print many Handicap Certificates in one go (and in small size too)

The new HandicapMaster software allows you to select more than one player at the same time when requesting a Handicap Certificate.
Tick boxes to select players
We have replaced the previous A5 sized version of the Handicap Certificate with a Small Certificate option that allows you to print up to three mini-certificates on a single A4 page.
See REPORTS menu, then LAYOUT AND OPTIONS, then HANDICAP REPORTS tab to turn on 'Small Certificates' option.

2. Play Competitions over shortened courses

With the new HandicapMaster, you may now enter competitions played over shortened courses. In addition to 9 hole and 12 hole rounds previously available, the new HandicapMaster will process competitions played over 9 holes, 10 holes, and any length of course up to 18 holes.

3. View results for First Nine and Last Nine holes played

When you run APPLY SCORES with the new HandicapMaster, additional competition results reports are made available. These reports sort players into winning order over just the first 9 holes played or just the last 9 holes played. This makes it possible for you to award a prize for the best front nine, for example.
For Singles, Greensomes and Foursomes competitions, the results of the competition based on just Gross Scores also become available for review.
The VIEW RESULTS selection window layout has been changed, adding a Statistics tab. This offers you quick access to Competition Statistics reports, relating to the chosen competition.

4. Updating HandicapMaster software has been made easy!

The new HandicapMaster can be set up to keep itself up to date with the latest changes and bug fixes automatically, without you having to worry about how to install updates. If you are running HandicapMaster on an Internet connected computer, click the option CHECK FOR UPDATES ONLINE (located on the HELP menu) and in addition to advising that a new program update is available, HandicapMaster will offer to download and install the update automatically for you!

6. Improved Performance for HandicapMaster running over a network

The new HandicapMaster sees an improvement in the speed that it runs. This will be most noticeable if you have HandicapMaster installed across a network with more than one PC sharing HandicapMaster.

7. Publish Start Sheets to Master Scoreboard web site

Improving the free MasterScoreboard.co.uk service further, the new HandicapMaster allows you to publish Start Sheets for forthcoming competitions to the web site.

8. Improving the Reports in HandicapMaster

The new HandicapMaster includes improvements to a number of available reports. In addition to the new competition results reports (FIRST NINE HOLES RESULTS, LAST NINE HOLES RESULTS and GROSS SCORES RESULTS) a number of improvements have been made to existing reports:
  1. The main COMPETITION RESULTS report now includes the Par and Standard Scratch Score of the course played in the notes section titled 'Competition Scratch Score'. Also, player's 'Previous Handicaps' are shown alongside new Handicaps where highlighting those player's with Playing Handicap changes (in the notes section).
  2. The CONGU HANDICAP RECORD REPORT now displays 'Year' date rows in blue (Report layout only) for easier differentiation between years in the report.
  3. You may now choose the number of strokes over Handicap used by the PLAYERS NOT PLAYED NEAR HANDICAP Report (See REPORTS menu, then LAYOUT AND OPTIONS and click HANDICAP REPORTS tab).
  4. For the COMPETITION SCORING ANALYSIS Report, Hole Par values from the Ladies Card are now used for ladies-only competitions.

9. New facilities when creating a Start Sheet

To make it easier for you to cope with a player dropping out of a competition before it is played, the new HandicapMaster has a new option added that allows names to be moved up a Start Sheet grid (removing blank cells created when removing the players who have dropped out). This is added to the REORDER button.
The AUTOFILL button no longer imports players who scored 'No Return' in the previous competition. Also, the number of players who are swapped around when randomising a Start Sheet has been increased.

10. Skip through Handicap Record Graphs member-by-member

Two new buttons have been added to the Handicap Record Graph toolbar to make it easier for you to skip through members, viewing their handicap graphs. These buttons are GO TO PREVIOUS PLAYER and GO TO NEXT PLAYER.

11. Making it easier to operate HandicapMaster

We have made changes to help you navigate around HandicapMaster and select options quicker. If you use the right mouse button when displaying any of the Handicapping place lists, a pop-up menu with access to the UNDO command is now displayed.
If you press the INSERT key on your keyboard when displaying the Opened Competitions List, Closed Competitions List or Away Competition Scores Lists, this will now run an appropriate Wizard.
HandicapMaster will now display any available context menu if you press the MENU key on your keyboard. A context menu is a 'pop-up' menu normally activated by clicking the right mouse button. The MENU key is typically found next to the right-hand CTRL or CONTROL key on the keyboard.

12. Improvements made to Score Entry

In the Premier edition, when you complete the CONFIGURE SCORE ENTRY wizard, a separate set of choices are stored for each Userid. This will allow you to set up a configuration for a Player Entry computer (perhaps using specialist equipment), whilst having a separate configuration for Administration of competitions on a standard computer.
You may now jump to a specific hole on the scorecard window when entering scores by clicking (or touching with Touch-sensitive screen) the applicable score entry square.
In the Premier edition, we have made it easier for players entering scores on a Touch-sensitive screen by combining the Zero and 'NR' keys, so that a new Down key can be accessed. We have also added a Number Keypad on the Administration Password Screen, when running in Touch-screen mode.

If you would like to use a low cost Card Reader for Ireland GOLFnet cards, we have made the GemPC USB-SL Smart Card Reader an available option in all editions of HandicapMaster.
Where Visiting players are entering a competition using their Ireland GOLFnet card, HandicapMaster now finds a previous record of the player in the database, even if the player has previously been deleted (is listed in the 'Past Members and Visitors' list).
When an unknown GOLFnet card is inserted into a Card Reader, Player Records are now only added to the HandicapMaster database automatically if the card is for an Away player or Visitor. This is to stop duplicate records being raised for Members if they insert a second GOLFnet card into the system.

13. Miscellaneous new features

We have added a new column to the Closed Competitions List called 'Entrants', showing number of Scores processed for each competition.
You may now select 'No Report' as the result of a Knock-out Match. If chosen, no result score is shown on the Knock-out draw, for the match.
To clear the System password, or Administration Section password for Score Entry, you may now just enter a blank (empty) password.
We have made some cosmetic changes to the following program windows:
  • Change Password
  • Admin Area Password
  • Scorecard
  • Record Away Scores
  • Reports 'Layout and Options'
In the Society Edition, you may now enter a par of 2 for a hole.
When you are asked to select a player, the pop-up window now shows player's status, Exact and Playing handicaps as well as their names, to help with differentiating like-named players.
Improvements have been made to the Import facility, used to add or update Members in bulk. HandicapMaster now allows the import to be aborted if a Column Heading in the import file is not recognised. Using trailing spaces on Column Headings no longer causes the headings to be rejected.
The following items have changed in OPTIONS (FILE menu):
  • A new option CLOSE DATABASE AFTER IDLE TIMEOUT has been added, to allow optimisation of HandicapMaster performance over a network.
  • NUMBER OF AUTOMATIC BACKUPS TO RETAIN is now stored in the Database file, rather than locally on each Computer.
  • Option REMOVE ADDRESS AND TEL. NO. WHEN DELETING MEMBERS has been removed.
