How To Upgrade HandicapMaster from 5 or 6 to Version 7 with multiple databases?

Please note: these instructions should only be used if you have more than one existing HandicapMaster database. If you have a single database please view these instructions.

To upgrade HandicapMaster from version 5 or 6 to Version 7, we recommend that you proceed as follows:

  1. Download the version 7 software, or receive the latest software on CD.

  2. Install version 7 by running the downloaded file or inserting the CD.

    It is recommended that you install to the folder suggested by the installer, thereby avoiding overwriting your existing version 5 or 6 software.

  3. Copy your first database from Version 5 or 6.

    1. Start HandicapMaster Version 5 or 6 using one of your desk top icons.
    2. Select FILE menu, then BACKUP DATABASE.
    3. Click CHANGE FOLDER and select a folder on your local drive. Click OK, then YES to create a backup file.
    4. Exit HandicapMaster Version 5 or 6.

    5. Start HandicapMaster Version 7.
    6. Select FILE menu, then RESTORE DATABASE.
    7. Click CHANGE FOLDER and select the folder you used with version 6. Click OK, then YES to restore the backup file.

  4. Copy your next database from Version 5 or 6.

    1. Start HandicapMaster Version 5 or 6 using another of your desk top icons.
    2. Select FILE menu, then BACKUP DATABASE.
    3. Click CHANGE FOLDER and select a folder on your local drive. Click OK, then YES to create a backup file.
    4. Exit HandicapMaster Version 5 or 6.

    5. Start HandicapMaster Version 7. Do NOT restore your database at this point.
    6. Select FILE menu, then OPTIONS, then click the DATABASE tab. Click the CONFIGURE button
    7. Click NEW to add a new database. This will start the Database Wizard. Click NEXT four times
    8. Enter a suitable description for this database and select an appropriate icon from the list. Click NEXT then FINISH and then Click OK to acknowledge the database has been set up.
    9. Click OK twice and then close down HandicapMaster.
    10. Restart HandicapMaster 7, you will now be presented with a list of databases, select the one you have just added. This is now the active database.

    11. Select FILE menu, then RESTORE DATABASE.
    12. Click CHANGE FOLDER and select the folder you used with version 6. Click OK, then YES to restore the backup file.

  5. Repeat the previous step for any further databases.

  6. When you no longer require version 5 or 6, uninstall version 5 or 6.

    1. Start Windows CONTROL PANEL
    2. Select ADD OR REMOVE PROGRAMS
    3. Highlight 'HandicapMaster Version 5 or 6' and click REMOVE
    4. Click YES to prompt 'Are you sure you want to completely remove HandicapMaster Golf Software and all of its components?'
    5. Click 'NO TO ALL' to 'Remove Shared File'?

    Once version 6 has been removed, restart version 7 and perform a Backup (Click FILE menu, then BACKUP DATABASE). If an error relating to file 'ZLIB' occurs, please re-run the version 7 installer.

    We are investigating the potential cause of this error.

Note

It is not possible to backup a CLUB or PREMIER edition database and restore it to NETWORK edition. If you would like to do this, please contact us so that we may help.
