How to install the HandicapMaster Network Edition

Installation on the SQL Server Computer

Please follow our instructions for installing SQL Server Express and HandicapMaster onto the 'Server' PC.

Note: The 'Server' PC may be any PC in the network that meets the hardware and software requirements to run SQL Server Express. It need not be a PC running a server version of Microsoft Windows.

Installation on each client PC

  1. Install SQL Server 2005 Native Client software

    Download and install the SQL Server Native Client.

    The installation of SQL Server 2005 Native Client will require administrator access.

    Please note: That for this download you MUST select the download that is suitable for your hardware system. There are X86, X64 and IA64 downloads. Please consult your system administrator for further information about your hardware.

    If you have a firewall on the client PC you may need to configure it to allow you to communicate with the PC where the SQL server is located. Please discuss this with your firewall administrator.

  2. Install MDAC 2.8 SP1 (Windows 2000 PCs ONLY)

    For Windows 2000 PCs you may need to install MDAC 2.8 SP1 as follows:

    1. Visit the Microsoft downloads page:
    2. In the search box (just to the left of the GO button), please enter "MDAC" and click GO.
    3. In the results list, download and install the "Microsoft Data Access Components (MDAC) 2.8 SP1" update.

  3. Install HandicapMaster

    Please visit the Downloads page to download HandicapMaster and install HandicapMaster by running the downloaded file.

    Select "NETWORK" installation when you run the installer.

  4. Run HandicapMaster and configure the Database parameters

    Start up HandicapMaster either by double clicking on the desktop icon or from the "Start" bar select All Programs --> HandicapMaster7 -> "HandicapMaster 7".

    You will see a message indicating this is a new HandicapMaster Network edition installation, and that you will need to configure the database details.

    Enter the SQL Catalog name and TCP/IP Port that you used when installing SQL Server Express and HandicapMaster onto the 'Server' PC.

    For Example: SERVERNAME\SQLEXPRESS,1433

    Enter the name of the database you used when installing the database ('HandicapMaster' by default). Then click OK to start using HandicapMaster.
