How can I recover HandicapMaster from an 'Unrecognised Database' ?
Please Note this information is for our Club, Premier and Society editions, it does not apply to the Network edition.
"I have just returned from the golf club and they can not access handicapmaster
at all. They have an error message on the screen as soon as they click on the
icon, they are not allowed to enter the password. The error message is
Program path c\Handicapmaster\Handicapmaster.exe
Module
Version/Convert_database
Line Number 2224
Error Number 3343
Error Category DAO. Workspace
Unrecognized database format c:\HandicapMaster\Handicap.mdb
From what I can gather what happened was that they tried to restore a database
in error and it was on old version of the database, pre your latest
update. Now we cant do a thing. Is there an easy fix?"
It is likely that the restored version has been damaged whilst being copied to or from the floppy diskette.
HandicapMaster does have some contingency arrangements in case this happens.
Start Windows Explorer.
Navigate to the HandicapMaster installation folder (by default this would be C:\Program Files\HandicapMaster). Alternatively right mouse-click on the desktop icon, select properties and then 'find target.'. This will take you to the Handicapmaster folder.
Find the file Handicap.MDB. This may show as "Handicap". It's type will be "Microsoft Access Database" if you have Access installed on your PC.
Delete or move the file to the desktop.
Double click on the HandicapMaster icon. A window showing 'missing database file will appear. Select the appropriate backup file displayed (usually the most recent) and then click on restore. HandicapMaster should then start up correctly.
If you haven't done so already, delete the file moved to the desktop.
