Additional information for 64-bit environments

Installation on the SQL Server Computer

Pre-requisites

This information applies only to versions of Windows which support 64-bit (x64) applications

The installation of SQL Server 2005 Management Studio Express will require administrator access.

It is also good data processing practice to take backups of your data prior to performing this installation.

If you require further detailed information about SQL Server 2005 Express this is available from Microsoft.

Otherwise please follow the instructions below to install SQL Server 2005 Management Studio Express on the Server Computer.

Download and Install SQL Server 2005 Management Studio Express

1. Download SQL Server 2005 Management Studio Express and save the file.

   This is the x64 version of a program that may be run to administer SQL Server, if required.

2. Installation of SQL Server 2005 Management Studio Express must be performed using administrator access, but may not seek the correct privileges. The following steps work around this.

   1. From the Start Menu, select All Programs and then Accessories

   2. Right-click on Command Prompt and select Run as administrator

   3. In the Command window, change to the drive and directory to which you saved the downloaded file.

   4. Start the installer by typing the file name SQLServer2005_SSMSEE_x64.msi at the command prompt.

      Tip: You can use the command dir to list the files, and then Edit->Mark and Edit->Paste to cut and paste the name of the installer package.

   5. The installer should now run successfully
