Hi James,

Thank you for spotting and highlighting this.

We understand that the EGU will be making their first official announcements about a Central Database of Handicaps at their conference. We also anticipate press releases regarding this project at about the same time.

We believe that it is correct that the EGU should be the first to make announcements about this (as it is their project). For the time being, we would prefer not to make any further statement, other than to confirm that we are fully involved in helping the EGU achieve their aims.

I hope this helps.
I have now found it on the EGU website buried in the agenda for the series of conferences entitled "at the Heart of Golf Conference". I would have thought the EGU might have publicised this major step better, rather than slipping it into one session in a 2-day conference.

I'm sure this has been discussed before but hopefully I can have some clarification on 2 points:
Point 1. In our junior league we allow boys to play against girls in matchplay off handicap. Playing from the relevant tees and shots from the mens card. Am I correct in saying that full difference should be used plus the difference in sss. ie mens sss 69 ladies 71. Boy h'cap 10, girl 20 therefore boy gives girl 10+2 shots=12 ? Has anyone got that condition written down in straighforward English. All I come up with is a mathematical formula!

Point 2. In mixed stableford pairs comp. Should the same allowance apply to the ladies?
ie. Ladies receive three quarters handicap + difference in sss. Men receive just three quarters?

It is interesting to hear how other clubs operate. We have probably a relatively small junior section compared to others and so possibly don't have the same issues. Up until two years ago juniors played only in junior competitions. I actually put a motion forward which thankfully was carried comfortably to allow junior with a handicap of 20 or less to compete in a certain set of adult medals through the year which are played for the oldest trophy (a medal) in the club.

I proposed this as I considered that our junior section although enjoying playing in their own competitions were losing out when it came to appropriate handicap adjusting. By that I mean that when their handicaps improved to around 20 they appeared to be falling to quick due to limited number of entries and too many 'reduction only' scenarios so they never got the proverbial 0.1 back. It seemed correct to therefore introduce them more into adult competition where their 'real' playing ability would be measured and there handicaps monitored and adjusted. I have to say it has worked seemlessly since introduction.

You may ask why the limit of 20 and why only a selection of competitions. Well I was very keen that the junior section did not lose its better players from the rest of their competition calendar so that within the junior section handicaps would be adjusted appropriately as best as we could manage. The more important reason was that when I asked many juniors what they thought, they saw the proposal as the best solution so that juniors picking up the game wouldn't feel daunted playing 'adult' competitions and they could reach a certain standard first. The juniors wanted to play junior competitions and the few betters players wanted the occasional 'adult' challenge.

So I suppose in the end we saw an issue with junior handicapping, asked the juniors what they thought of the proposal and reached a suitable solution to fit everyones needs. (Not often things go so smoothly!!)

Taking them as the normal SI can produce a bias depending on which 13 you are using. An alternative is to give each player 13/18ths of their playing handicap and then use the normal SIs.

Over the winter months we would like to run a weekley stableford comp but only over 13 holes. Have any forum users got any thoughts or views on how the stroke index, or players handicaps could be adjusted just for this comp, or should we just play the 13 holes as per the index on the card?

Thank you for your suggestion.

We are aware that at least one Golf Union is currently looking at the feasibility of introducing a formal structure that would address this situation.

We will be committed to adding these features to HandicapMaster if and when they are formally introduced.

As Stephen has pointed out, clubs affiliated to the EGU are not permitted to lapse handicaps in this way.
Many clubs, however, restrict entry into their major competitions to members who have played in a minimum number of qualifying competitions (say 3) in the period leading up to the major competition.
The member you mentioned would therefore have to demonstrate his current playing ability before being allowed to compete.

I have also been wondering the same thing. It would be great if you could select an option to set that a player has to have 3 qualifying cards from the previous season to be able to win a competition.

It is a mine field with our club where we have a rule that you have to have 3 qualifying cards from the current or previous season to be able to win our trophy competitions they have entered, and I have to trawl through the data every time to see who has qualified.

Hello Marco,

I have moved your post to the "Handicapping" forum as it appears to be more of a general handicapping enquiry rather than a specific HandicapMaster query.

Currently lapsing of handicaps is only valid for Golf Clubs affiliated to the Scottish Golf Union or the Scottish Ladies Golfing Association.

Hello CJ,

Thank you for the extra information. I am sorry I did not understand your initial query.

At the current time the Competition Winners report displays all the winners of all the rounds. I have noted that being able to limit the report to aggregated results would be of benefit to you.

We are always grateful to receive suggestions for HandicapMaster as it gives us an opportunity to improve the software.

We log all suggestions and requests and we use this to help plan future development of the software.

At the current time I am unable to advise when a feature such as this will be added to HandicapMaster, but confirm development of the software is ongoing.

I am very grateful for you asking this question. Thank you.

Thanks, but what I was after is not just a single competition but a Report of all the Competition Winners for say the last 12 months. When I use the Competition Winners Report option (from the Reports Menu) I get a list of all individual round winners (marked with *) plus overall competition winners. What I would like is just a list of overall competition winners without the individual round winners being shown.
We have released an update to Version 7 software, which is now available for download.

To download the latest update, run HandicapMaster and select HELP menu, then CHECK FOR UPDATES ONLINE (version 7 Users).

Alternatively, please visit our download pages here:

http://www.handicapmaster.org/downloads
This update includes a repair for CONGU Handicapping:

"FIX (Ref. 71078) - CONGU Handicapping; The APPLY SCORES wizard would display the ladies Competition Scratch Score calculations in the men's CSS window in the situation where the competition was a mixed (Men’s and Ladies) competition, but there were no men's scores, and the organising committee opted out of calculating a single Competition Scratch Score adjustment for men and ladies scores combined (I.e. separate men’s and ladies CSS's are calculated)."
